Short CV
Dr. Kostas Marias, PhD is Professor of Medical Image Processing at the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU), and Head of the Computational BioMedicine Laboratory (CBML) at the Institute of Computer Science, Foundation for Research & Technology – Hellas (FORTH-ICS). Since September 2025, he has been serving as the Dean of the School of Engineering at the Hellenic Mediterranean University. He received his PhD in Medical Image Analysis and Medical Physics from UCL (Royal Free & University College Medical School), in collaboration with the University of Oxford. He worked as a Research Assistant at Oxford (2000–2003) and later as an Associate Researcher at FORTH-ICS (2003–2006), before being appointed Principal Researcher in 2006. Prof. Marias has coordinated major EU projects in cancer modeling and personalized medicine (e.g., ContraCancrum, TUMOR) and has led or contributed to numerous international initiatives in medical imaging, biomedical informatics, and AI for healthcare. He is a senior member of IEEE EMBS, and has held organizational and program roles in major conferences including EMBC, BIBE, and IST. He has authored/co-authored more than 350 publications in journals, books, and conference proceedings, with contributions in medical image processing, image-based modeling, Radiomics, and deep learning in healthcare. He serves as Section Editor-in-Chief for Medical Imaging at the Journal of Imaging.
