Short CV
Nikos Tsiknakis holds a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras. For his thesis, he collaborated with Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) on using stereo vision techniques to estimate cloud heights from satellite images. He subsequently joined the Computational BioMedicine Laboratory (CBML) at ICS FORTH, where he has contributed to several EU Horizon 2020 projects. His work has focused on medical image registration, segmentation, and classification, employing both traditional image processing methods and innovative AI-based approaches. Some of these projects include InSilc (GA number: 777119), SeeFar (GA number: 826429), and ProCancer-I (GA number: 952159). In addition, he has worked on chest X-Ray images for COVID-19 detection and pollen grain microscopy image analysis using deep learning techniques. He has received the Gold Award at the Healthcare Business Awards 2020 for the paper “Interpretable artificial intelligence framework for COVID 19 screening on chest X rays”. Nikos has also been a research fellow at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, working on histopathology data analysis for breast cancer prediction and prognostication.
