Angelos Bilas is Professor in the Department of Computer Science, University of Crete and affiliated to the Computer Architecture and VLSI Systems (CARV) Laboratory of the Institute of Computer Science, FORTH.
Research Interests
- Scalable Systems and Networks: System interconnects, network interfaces, and communication protocols. Block-level storage architectures, protocols, virtualization, and management. System performance, reliability, and programmability.
- Miniaturization of computer systems: Runtime system support and communication protocols for miniature systems and sensor networks.
- Computer Systems Security: Networked storage security, network interface and storage controller support for security.
Awards and Honors
- Marie Curie Excellent Teams Award. Grant UNISIX: Unifying System Interconnects, 2005-2009.
- Best Student Presentation Award at ICS'02 for "Parallelization and Performance of 3D Ultrasound Imaging Beamforming Algorithms on Modern Clusters".
- Nortel Junior Chair in Software Engineering, University of Toronto, since 1998.
Short CV
Prof. Angelos Bilas is currently an Professor at FORTH-ICS and the University of Crete, Greece. Prof. Bilas received his diploma in Computer Engineering from the University of Patras in 1993, and the M.S and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Princeton University, NJ in 1995 and 1998 respectively. Between 1998-2002 he held an Assistant Professor position with the ECE Department at the University of Toronto. His current interests include architectures and systems software support for scalable storage systems, low-latency high-bandwidth communication protocols, runtime-system support for multicore processors, and miniaturization of computer systems. His work has been published in prestigious conferences in computer architecture and systems (ISCA, HPCA, ASPLOS). Prof. Bilas is the recipient of a Marie Curie Excellent Teams Award (2005-2009) and currently servers in the Editorial Board of IEEE Computer Architecture Letters and the Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing. http://www.ics.forth.gr/~bilas
