The reconstruction of a dynamical system from measurements is an extremely important task, as old as experiments themselves. We present a method on how to extract dynamical equations, and in particular nonlinear differential equations from measurements. The method is illustrated by sound reconstruction of organ pipes and a corresponding validation by means of temporal series and their spectra. We emphasize that the method is very general and holds for many musical instruments.
Markus Abel studied physics at the RWTH Aachen. He received his diploma degree in physics in 1994 at the Institute for Technical Acoustics at RWTH.
His phD on nonlinear localization was attained in 1998 at Potsdam University, followed by Postdoc positions in Rome and Potsdam. After an industry experience
2006-2008 he returned to academia as senior lecturer at Potsdam University from 2008-2011. He was full professor for multiphase fluids flows at Nancy University from 2011-2012. After this year he returned to Potsdam running a company on the management of complex systems as CEO and private associate at Potsdam University.
His interests are numerical and analytical modeling of dynamical systems, with speciality in data-driven modeling.
