An important problem in systems biology is modeling the dynamics of systems representing biological networks. Due to the complexity of the inference problem, some researchers suggested evolutionary algorithms for this purpose. However, in many publications only one algorithm is used without any comparison to other optimization methods.
Likewise, in most cases only one mathematical formalism is considered. Thus, we systematically apply different evolutionary algorithms and mathematical models for a comparative analysis. In addition to the parameter estimation we consider a post-optimization step to increase the robustness of our obtained models.
