We seek one (1) student enrolled in a University MSc Program in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EuroHPC JU-funded project NET4EXA. The NET4EXA project aims to create an advanced interconnect, which will scale to hundreds of thousands of computing nodes and will support modern HPC systems that are designed for massive AI tasks, such as the training of Large Language Models. The interconnect forms the backbone of such systems, and their overall performance is intimately tied to the scalability of the network and its tight coupling with the high-end compute elements.

This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Machine Learning Engineer – Research Assistant in “Nonlinear time series processing and high – level data analysis” on an international research project within the Institute of Computer Science (ICS), Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH). We seek a candidate to join the R&D activities of FORTH-ICS in the context of the TRIERES project, aiming to create a Hydrogen Valley in Greece, Balkans, South-eastern Europe, and the wider area of Eastern Mediterranean. The selected candidate will contribute to the development and evaluation of advanced data analysis and forecasting methods for the TRIERES Valley ecosystem. The work will involve designing and implementing machine learning and statistical models for the monitoring and prediction of hydrogen production, storage, and consumption time series. The candidate will be self-motivated, have great attention to detail, with strong organizational and communication skills, and will be able to work on their own initiative. The candidate will be working in an international and multidisciplinary team, with plenty of opportunities for training and development. The role will be based at the premises of FORTH in Heraklion, on the island of Crete.

Description. Modern astrophysical research requires analysis of massive datasets due to the unprecedented volume of data generated by advanced telescopes and observational instruments, which capture detailed information on celestial objects and events. Analyzing these large datasets enables scientists to uncover the underlying patterns and structures in the universe, leading to breakthrough discoveries and a deeper understanding of fundamental astrophysical processes. The HORIZON project “TITAN – Frugal Artificial Intelligence and Application in Astrophysics”, funded under the HORIZON-WIDERA-2022-TALENTS-01 program aims to develop novel computational paradigms for astrophysical data analysis through the use of deep learning methods in high performance computing environments. Within this project, we are seeking two (2) highly motivated research assistants to join our team and contribute to the development of cutting-edge AI-driven solutions for scientific data analysis.
