[ICS-2378] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position for an R&D Engineer with a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering

We seek one (1) recent graduate Engineer with a degree in Computer Science or Computer for our team. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EC-funded project RISER. The RISER project will develop and validate open-source designs for standardized form-factor system platforms suitable for supporting cloud services, featuring RISC-V processor chips from contemporary European initiatives. Specifically, RISER will build two cloud-focused platforms: (1) An accelerator platform, in the form of a PCIe acceleration board designed for integration with HPC servers; (2) A microserver platform consisting of RISC-V chips coupled with high-speed storage and networking. The open-source system board designs of RISER will be accompanied by open-source low-level firmware and systems software, and a representative Linux-based software stack to support cloud services, facilitating uptake and enhancing the commercialization path of project results. Three use cases will be developed to evaluate and demonstrate the capabilities of RISER platforms: a) Acceleration of compute workloads; b) Networked object and key-value storage; c) Containerized execution as part of a provider-managed IaaS environment. The RISER consortium consists of seven partners, from academia, research centers and industry.

[ICS-2376] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position of Research and Development Engineer with a Master degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field

We seek one “Research and Development Engineer” in Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) with experience in relevant RTD projects. The candidate will participate in R&D activities of FORTH‐ICS in the context of project “SOPRANO – Socially-Acceptable and Trustworthy Human-Robot Teaming for Agile Industries”, funded under Horizon Europe, Horizon – CL4 – 2022-Digital – Emerging – 02 and will work on topics related to task assignment and human-robot interaction fluency. SOPRANO addresses both the synergistic task execution by humans and robots as part of the collaborative robot paradigm, and the strategic role of intelligent multi-robot systems where distributed and interconnected robots, with different characteristics and functions, are intelligently orchestrated to perform tasks whose complexity and cost are too demanding for a single robot to accomplish on its own. The project aspires to scale robotics collaboration from the single human-robot dyad to a peer-based synergy between heterogeneous robots featuring different physical and cognitive properties, supporting various tasks in collaboration with humans or other robotic agents. SOPRANO aims to design the next generation of multi-human multi-robot systems to support more flexible, resilient and reconfigurable agile processes. These will be showcased in three use cases, namely next generation manufacturing floors, automated construction sites, and smart agri-food production where humans and intelligent machines seamlessly work together. The selected candidate will contribute to tasks enhancing and coordinating human-robot interaction.

We seek one Computer Scientist or Engineer (BSc or MSc holder) to develop and implement autonomous GPS-denied navigation and GPS spoofing detection for UAVs, utilizing computer vision, machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and probabilistic methods to enhance operational reliability in complex environments.The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH-ICS in the context of EDIDP 2020-MSC-NS- 2020 project “USSPs – Development of Unmanned Semi-fixed Sea Platforms” (EDIDP-MSC-NS-2020-117-USSPS), funded under EDIDP 2020-MSC-NS-2020. The project “Development of Unmanned Semi-fixed Sea Platforms for Maritime Surveillance” (USSPS) will develop the backbone of an advanced C5ISTAR federated system of systems. USSPS will integrate legacy assets and systems with innovative solutions, aiming to improve maritime surveillance capabilities, reduce high value asset utilization and mission related costs, and provide cross-domain persistent and permanent maritime situational awareness. The project will develop an unmanned highly autonomous, energy efficient and miniaturized oil rig technology-based platform capable to integrate a wide range of air, surface and underwater sensors. The platforms will enable deployment in any geographical region, including all types of sea-beds and deep-sea regions, and operation under adverse environmental conditions. The candidate will contribute in tasks regarding the integration of advanced capabilities on the USSPs prototype (WP5), and specifically: • GPS spoofing detection using ML or DL methods • GPS Spoofing dataset generation • Multi-sensory probabilistic data fusion • Visual- and NN-based feature extraction and tracking

The candidate will work with the design, extension and implementation of services for the tool SYNTHESIS that is used for administration, documentation and promotion of cultural instances.PULSE-ART will produce compelling evidence illustrating the positive impact of arts in education for the enhancement of cultural expression and awareness (CAE). At the heart of this initiative lies the concept of integrating art, culture, and heritage institutions, including museums, galleries, cultural centers and overall CCIs, into the educational framework. This integration aims to effectively address the deficiencies of the educational system, hindering the improvement of CAE through the arts. Reference materials will be created and integrated into the Arts in Education for Cultural Awareness Observatory, including a competency Framework, a Professional Development Programme and a self-reflection tool, which will be validated and tested through 7 case studies in 7 countries using different art techniques with a lifelong learning perspective. Collaborative Hubs between educational institutions, spanning all levels of education, and art and cultural heritage organizations will be created to bridge the identified gaps through innovative and tailored methodologies of arts in education, leveraging the expertise and fostering partnerships.
