[ICS-1543] One (1) full-time position for a (ESR) PhD Student on Provenance Management, funded by the European Commission under the Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) program KnowGraphs

The position is a full-time position and is funded by the European Commission under the Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) program KnowGraphs. The main goal of KnowGraphs is to scale Knowledge Graphs to be accessible to a wide audience of users across multiple domains including (1) companies (in domains including Industry 4.0, bio-medicine, finance, law) of all sizes and even (2) end users (e.g., through personal assistants and web search). Addressing this goal demands a mix of works from the theoretical foundations to the exploitation and economic repercussions of Knowledge Graphs. KnowGraphs focuses on addressing four of the facets of Knowledge Graph management: (F1) representation, (F2) construction and maintenance, (F3) operation and (F4) exploitation. The project will address these pillars by researching and developing novel methods, models and frameworks using a cross-disciplinary mix of methods from Web Science, Data Science, Knowledge Representation, Knowledge Engineering, Big Data, data law, and business innovation. The results will be applied across sectors, i.e., in domains including personalized medicine, Industry 4.0, question answering, personal assistants and Web search. The KnowGraphs consortium aspires to establish a fertile multidisciplinary research and innovation community with strong entrepreneurial culture that will advance research on different aspects of Knowledge Graphs. We welcome applicants with a Master’s degree pursuing a Ph.D. degree. The position is limited to the duration of the qualification procedure in the field of knowledge graphs with the EU project KnowGraphs. Depending on the previous qualification, the position is to be filled for a period of usually 3 years.

We seek one experienced member for our team, holding a Bachelor degree in Humanities or Social Sciences and a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a Joint Master’s degree in Computer Science and Humanities, with background in European and/or National ICT RTD projects, to assist in the project activities, in particular for the design and implementation of the ARIADNEplus system for Monitoring Knowledge Integration, which is based on the SYNERGY Reference Model (of data provision and aggregation) and the CIDOC CRM ontology and its extensions. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the project: ARIADNEplus: Advanced Research Infrastructure for Archaeological Dataset Networking in Europe (plus), funded by the European Commission under the H2020 Programme, contract no. H2020-INFRAIA-2018-1-823914”.

Αντικείμενο για τη θέση α): • Εξοικείωση και ενασχόληση με πλατφόρμες (Machine Learning) Μηχανικής Μάθησης και (Deep Learning) Βαθιάς Μηχανικής Μάθησης. • Δοκιμή υπαρχουσών τεχνικών Υπολογιστικής Όρασης, Μηχανικής Μάθησης και Βαθιάς Μάθησης για προβλήματα Υπολογιστικής Όρασης όπως (ενδεικτικά) η χρονική τμηματοποίηση video (temporal video segmentation) και η αναγνώριση ανθρώπινων δράσεων (human action recognition). • Μελέτη ερευνητικών εργασιών σχετικές με τα παραπάνω θέματα. • Ανάπτυξη νέων μεθοδολογιών και αλγορίθμων σχετικά με τα παραπάνω προβλήματα. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the projects “C4IIoT: Cyber security 4.0: protecting the Industrial Internet of Things”, funded under H2020-SU-ICT-2018-20 and “COLLABS: A COmprehensive cyber-intelligence framework for resilient coLLABorative manufacturing Systems”, funded under H2020-ICT-2018-20. In the context of the above-mentioned projects project, FORTH, along with the projects’ partners, will study and develop specialized communication protocols for emerging, ICT-enabled systems.
