ICS-2369
] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position of Researcher with a PhD degree in Computer Vision
We seek one experienced researcher in Computer Vision with a PhD degree. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH-ICS in the context of the H2020 project “MAGICIAN - iMmersive leArninG for ImperfeCtion detectIon and repAir through human-robot interactioN”, funded under Horizon 2020, HORIZON-CL4-2022-DIGITAL-EMERGING-02, and will work on Computer Vision related aspects. A common trait of many important markets is the increasing attention of consumers to the aesthetic quality of the products. Even products like mid-segment cars are required to be defect-free in all the areas falling under the direct sight of the customer. These expectations translate into high-quality standards in the production process, which are currently met by requiring an important physical effort to the workers in unsafe environments. The MAGICIAN project will take on the challenge producing a modular automation solution in which robots are used to detect and rework production defects before the last production phases commence and the aesthetics of the product is finalised. The project will produce two robotic solutions, one for defect analysis (the SR) and one for the defects’ rework (the CR). The SR and the CR can be used separately, with the humans remaining in charge of some of the activities, or in combination, with the CR operating on the defects identified by the SR. The SR can also be used in connection with the welding robotic station in order to adapt the process parameters. The robots will use Artificial Intelligence modules to detect and discriminate the defects from multi-modal data (the SR) or to decide the best policy to use for defect rework (the CR). In both cases, the decision logic of the modules will be trained using machine learning algorithms. The training data set will be acquired with the help of workers, who will operate on semiworked products within a controlled environment. The SR and the CR will rely on the software services of a common robotic platform. The solution will be developed adopting a human-centered approach, which will allow us to evaluate the impact of the innovation on the production processes and remove the most important asperities along this path. The effectiveness of the solution will be tested on a usecase, and its generality proven by recruiting additional contributors and use-cases through a FSTP scheme. The candidate will work on computer vision for measurement and analysis of human-objects interaction in order to contribute in tasks regarding the visual perception of the MAGICIAN system. More specifically, the intended topics of contribution are (a) Vision-based defects detection during inspection and (b) observation of human workers during defect handling and reworking.

] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position of a Post-Doctoral Researcher, in the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH)
We seek one (1) Post-Doctoral Researcher for our team. The candidates should have proven experience with RISC-V or ARM architectures with a background in European Research Projects. The candidates will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH-ICS in the context of the EuroHPC JU project Plasma-PEPSC. Plasma science has been at the forefront of HPC for several decades, driving and at the same time benefiting greatly from innovative hardware and software developments. The overall goal of Plasma-PEPSC is to take this development to the next level, enabling scientific breakthroughs in plasma science Grand Challenges through exascale computing and extreme-scale data analytics. Specifically, the project aims to enable unprecedented simulations on current pre-exascale and future exascale platforms in Europe to control plasma-material interfaces, optimize magnetically confined fusion plasmas, design next-generation plasma accelerators and predict space plasma dynamics in the Earth’s magnetosphere. These goals will be achieved by maximizing the parallel performance and efficiency of four European flagship plasma codes with a large user base: BIT, GENE, PIConGPU, and Vlasiator. The project will build on algorithmic advances (regarding load balancing, resilience, and data compression) as well as on programming model and library developments (MPI, accelerator and data movement APIs and runtimes, in-situ data analysis). Plasma-PEPSC brings together an exceptional, interdisciplinary group of highly-recognized leading scientists from academia, research centres, and HPC centres, with decades of experience in algorithmic and method developments, extreme-scale plasma simulations, and application optimizations with high involvement in strategic EuroHPC projects and initiatives.

] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position of R&D Engineer, in the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH)
We seek one (1) R&D Engineer in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EC-funded project dAIEdge. The dAIEdge project aims to reinforce the research and innovation value chains to accelerate the digital and green transitions through advanced edge AI technologies, applications, and innovations, building on Europe's existing assets and industrial strengths. The key aim is to support and ensure rapid development, market uptake and open strategic sovereignty for Europe in the critical technologies for distributed edge AI (hardware, software, frameworks, tools). The ultimate goal for the dAIEdge is to support Europe to become a global centre of excellence with unique human-centred edge AI competence addressing the social and economic challenges and the needs of the citizens and society.

] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position of an R&D Engineer, in the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH)
We seek one recent graduate member for our team. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the project REBECCA. The project REBECCA, a heavily SME-driven project, will democratize the development of novel edge AI systems. Towards this aim, REBECCA will develop a purely European complete Hardware(HW) and Software(SW) stack around a RISC-V CPU, which will provide significantly higher levels of a) performance (e.g. inferences per second), b) energy/power efficiency (e.g. inferences per joule/watt), c) safety and d) security than the existing ones. This will be achieved by utilizing state-of-the-art technologies and by making significant scientific and technological advances in several key relevant domains, including a) processing units, b) hardware accelerators, c) reconfigurable hardware, d) tightly coupled interconnected chiplets e) HW/SW co-design and co-development tools, f) system software, g) middleware, and h) AI libraries and frameworks. REBECCA will significantly contribute to realizing business and societal opportunities by validating and demonstrating its approach on 4 real-world use cases and 2 benchmarks based on real-world applications from the Smart appliances, Energy Generation, Infrastructure Inspection, Avionics Automotive and Health domains.
