Position Description – Analysis of the Scientific Field:
Computational Biodiversity is the scientific discipline that focuses on the design of algorithms and models — such as machine learning methods, data science approaches, discrete and numerical algorithms, as well as classical statistical techniques — and on the development of corresponding software and tools for the exploration, analysis, and interpretation of biodiversity data (ecological, genetic, biogeographical, satellite, or sensor data). At the same time, particular emphasis is placed on the analysis and interpretation of real/empirical biodiversity data, in close collaboration with biologists. Overall, Computational Biodiversity aims to facilitate and enhance research in the field of biodiversity.

We seek one (1) student member to join our team, at the postgraduate level in the field of Computer Engineering, preferably with background in Distributed Computing Systems, Operating Systems and Networks. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the project SMESEC: Protecting Small and Medium‐sized Enterprises digital technology through and innovative cyber‐SECurity framework 2 In the context of SMESEC project, FORTH, along with the project’s partners, will study and develop security mechanisms for ICT enabled systems. The SMESEC framework will support SMEs and enhance their cybersecurity against cyber‐attacks. As such, prior experience in security and systems programming are very important aspects for the position offered.

[ICS-1204] One (1) position of a MSc holder in Computer Science
We seek an experienced member for our team, with a background in Computer Science. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the project Smart End-to-end Massive IoT Interoperability, Connectivity and Security - SEMIoTICS, funded under Horizon 2020, H2020-IoT-03-2017. In the context of SEMIoTICS project, FORTH, along with the project’s partners, will develop a pattern-driven framework, built upon existing IoT platforms, to enable and guarantee secure and dependable actuation and semi-autonomic behaviour in IoT/IIoT applications. The SEMIoTICS framework will support cross-layer intelligent dynamic adaptation, including heterogeneous smart objects, networks and clouds, addressing effective adaptation and autonomic behavior at field (edge) and infrastructure (backend) layers based on intelligent analysis and learning. In the context of SEMIoTICS, the candidate will be involved in different aspects of the project such as scientific and technical execution, deliverable writing, participation to meetings etc.

In the context of the above mentioned projects, the candidate will participate in the design and implementation building, open and modular platform to support IoT secure connectivity and interoperability. Moreover, in the context of RESIST, the candidate will participate in the design and implementation on critical communication systems.
