[ICS-2403] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position of student enrolled to a University MSc Program in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
We seek one (1) student enrolled to a University MSc Program in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EuroHPC JU-funded project NET4EXA. The NET4EXA project aims to create an advanced interconnect, which will scale to hundreds of thousands of computing nodes and will support modern HPC systems that are designed for massive AI tasks, such as the training of Large Language Models. The interconnect forms the backbone of such systems, and their overall performance is intimately tied to the scalability of the network and its tight coupling with the high-end compute elements Requirements • Enrolled to a University graduate MSc Program in Computer Science or Computer Engineering • Physical presence at FORTH, Heraklion, Crete for the duration of the position • Demonstrated experience with the C language. • Demonstrated knowledge with the runtime environment and compilations tools for HPC accelerators, such as NVIDIA GPU’s. • Demonstrated knowledge with workload-driven evaluation of GPU accelerators using AI frameworks, such a PyTorch or TensorFlow. • Demonstrated experience with communication protocols and abstractions for high-speed interconnects that provide RDMA-based operations. • Fluent knowledge of English. • Names of at least three professional references

[ICS-2089] Call for expression of interest for one (1) Ph.D. student fellowship position "Higher-order statistics for neutral hydrogen intensity mapping" at the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH)
We look for one PhD student who will forecast the capability of such advanced higher-order statistics for HI intensity mapping, in the view of the upcoming SKA Observatory. They will apply these new statistical methods to simulated HI intensity mapping data for the first time. To this purpose, it will also be necessary to modify the existing techniques to account for the peculiarities of the HI intensity mapping signal, like its superb redshift resolution, opposite to its rather poor angular resolution (compared to optical surveys). Moreover, the telescope beam plays an important role, and it will have to be modelled accurately to extract the most of the information. All of this will be done with the most advanced techniques of machine learning and data analysis of cosmological maps. The goal is to forecast constraints on cosmological parameters as per the planned SKA Observatory HI intensity mapping survey, which will cover 5000 to 15,000 square degrees.

[ICS-2087] Call for expression of interest for one (1) Postdoctoral Researcher position in “Radio Weak Lensing” at the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH)
We seek one Postdoctoral Researcher who will explore the introduction of weak lensing-specific constraints in deep learning models that prevent galaxy shape distortions, extending paradigms from optical methodologies to the radio domain. The effort will focus on large-scale reconstruction algorithms able to optimize the measurement of shape parameters from SKA interferometry through the coupling of deep-learning-based image priors with geometric shape regularization. The post-doctoral researcher will be located at the premises of FORTH with a strong collaboration with the CosmoStat Laboratory at CEA Saclay.

[ICS-2086] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position of R&D Engineer, in the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH)
We seek one (1) Research & Development Engineer for our team. The candidates should have proven experience with RISC-V or ARM architectures with a background in European Research Projects. The candidates will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EuroHPC JU project EPI-SGA2. The European Processor Initiative develops a roadmap for future European high-performance low power processors aligned with the EuroHPC roadmap. EPI focuses on processor technologies based on ARM ISA and architecture for covering the short-term needs and HPC accelerator technologies based on RISC-V, the open-source ISA. RISC-V is also candidate to become the Europa’s own technologies for covering long term objectives. SGA2 also seeks to expand the scope of the project into adjacent European and global vertical markets that can leverage HPC to enable new and improved systems and solutions.
