As Computer Science (CS) drives the digitalisation of nearly every aspect of modern life, it is vital that it reflects the diversity and variability of the real world in order to develop systems that address a wide range of societal needs. Digital technologies and artefacts influence all domains of life as they transform the world we live in, including society, the economy, and culture. Technological development and systems design are intrinsically intertwined with social progress and change.
This activity aims to address Inclusion, Diversity and Equity enquires in Computer Science research and innovation process.
A central aim is to provide a common ground for exchange. By bringing together researchers, administrators and decision-makers with in our institution, this activity encourages dialogue across roles and disciplines. This collaborative setting supports the development of organizational cultures and research practices in which inclusion is treated not as an add-on, but as a guiding principle. The ambition is to move from short-term, scattered initiatives towards structural change that becomes part of everyday research practice and governance.
The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity in Computer Science (IDECS) activity of FORTH-ICS signals a clear commitment to responsible research and innovation, enhances institutional reputation and supports international competitiveness. It helps addressing persistent structural imbalances in participation within our institution. It also aligns closely with European Union policy priorities and funding frameworks that link excellence in research with social impact.
