The HYPERION project aims at the development of appropriate hardware and software for the automatic supervision, maintenance and optimization of the operation of photovoltaic power generation facilities. More specifically, during the project a flying robotic system will be constructed which will be able to fly autonomously (without remote control) over photovoltaic installations and, using appropriate sensors, will create a thermal map of the photovoltaic installation. Additionally, the robotic system will be able to accurately focus on each photovoltaic panel and create a detailed thermal footprint of the frame which will be recorded in a database. With proper processing of the thermal map and the data in its database, the YPERION system will be able to identify and categorize problematic locations in a photovoltaic installation but also, given these locations, to propose solutions for problem solving and optimization of the performance of the installation.
