The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH-ICS in the context of the H2020 project “MAGICIAN - iMmersive leArninG for ImperfeCtion detectIon and repAir through human-robot interactioN”, funded under Horizon 2020, HORIZON-CL4-2022-DIGITAL-EMERGING-02, and will work on Computer Vision related aspects. Στο πλαίσιο της υλοποίησης της Πράξης «Changes of Brain Networks under Learning in Normal Aging and Alzheimer’s Disease» (Νeuron-AD)» με Κωδικό 4058 , που χρηματοδοτείται στο πλαίσιο της «2η Προκήρυξη Ερευνητικών Έργων ΕΛ.ΙΔ.Ε.Κ. για την ενίσχυση Μελών ΔΕΠ και Ερευνητών/τριών» και συγχρηματοδοτείται από το Ευρωπαϊκό Ταμείο Περιφερειακής Ανάπτυξης (ΕΤΠΑ), το Ινστιτούτο Πληροφορικής του Ιδρύματος Τεχνολογίας και Έρευνας (ΙΠ-ΙΤΕ) προτίθεται να απασχολήσει μία (1) θέση «Μεταδιδάκτορα Ερευνητή/Αναλυτή Δεδομένων», με αντικείμενο την κατανόηση του τρόπου με τον οποίο τα δίκτυα από κύτταρα του φλοιού συντονίζονται και αλληλο-επιδρούν μεταξύ τους, προκειμένου να επεξεργάζονται τις πληροφορίες και να επιτρέπουν στα κυκλώματα του φλοιού να τροποποιούνται κατά τη διάρκεια της μάθησης είναι περιορισμένη. Ανωμαλίες στη λειτουργική συνδεσιμότητα των νευρωνικών δικτύων, ειδικά στον οπτικό φλοιό, χαρακτηρίζουν το Alzheimer's disease (AD). Το προτεινόμενο διεπιστημονικό έργο αφορά τον χαρακτηρισμό in vivo της αρχιτεκτονικής των λειτουργικών δικτύων του οπτικού φλοιού και των αλλαγών τους κατά τη διάρκεια της εξέλιξης της νόσου. Στόχος μας είναι η ανάπτυξη βιοδεικτών απεικόνισης νευρωνικών δικτύων, που θα επιτρέπουν τον εντοπισμό των AD-σχετιζόμενων ανωμαλιών της λειτουργικής συνδεσιμότητας νωρίς στην εξέλιξη της νόσου για τη δυνατότητα αποτελεσματικότερων θεραπειών. Ακολούθως, θα εξετάσουμε εάν τα μοτίβα λειτουργικής συνδεσιμότητας των δικτύων και οι ιδιότητες απόκρισης των νευρώνων που φαίνεται να έχουν σημαντικό ρόλο στην θεραπεία του AD, μπορούν να καθοδηγήσουν το σχεδιασμό deep-ANN με βελτιωμένη απόδοση. Τα πειράματα έχουν γίνει σε διαφορετικούς πληθυσμούς μυών, που συμπεριλαμβάνουν πειραματικό μοντέλο μυών του Alzheimer's disease (AD), σε συνεργασία με την Ιατρική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Harvard. Τα δεδομένα αποτυπώνουν τη δραστηριότητα των πυραμιδικών νευρώνων σε επίπεδο ανάλυσης ενός κυττάρου ταυτόχρονα σε ένα σύνολο φλοιικών περιοχών που τυπικά εμπλέκονται στο AD σε συνθήκες ηρεμίας και μάθησης. Τα μοτίβα λειτουργικής συνδεσιμότητας μεταξύ των νευρώνων θα παρακολουθούνται καθώς η ασθένεια εξελίσσεται σε όλες τις ομάδες μυών, τόσο σε κάθε περιοχή όσο και μεταξύ των περιοχών. Επίσης, οι ιδιότητες της οπτικής απόκρισης θα καταγράφονται ως συνάρτηση της εξέλιξης της νόσου. Θα εφαρμόσουμε καινοτόμες τεχνικές, όπως dynamic-graph-mixed-RNN+CNNs και graph-kernels, για να ανιχνεύσουμε τις σημαντικές χωρο-χρονικές δυναμικές. Εδώ, για πρώτη φορά, θα δημιουργήσουμε έναν χάρτη λειτουργικής συνδεσιμότητας και απόκρισης σε επίπεδο ανάλυσης ενός νευρώνα σε ένα πειραματικό μοντέλο μυών του AD. Η προτεινόμενη έρευνα θα παράγει βασικές γνώσεις σχετικά με το πώς τα λειτουργικά νευρωνικά δίκτυα αλλάζουν σε πειραματικό μοντέλο μυών του AD. Επιπροσθέτως, θα εξετάσουμε αν αυτή η επιδείνωση αναπαριστά έναν πρώιμο δείκτη εξέλιξης της νόσου, η οποία μπορεί να αντιμετωπιστεί χρησιμοποιώντας μια θεραπευτική παρέμβαση βασισμένη στις συνθετικές νευροτροφίνες.

The candidate will be involved in defining policies regarding sharing and access of knowledge, perform a systematic gap analysis with a focus on European Data spaces elicit the TRUSTEE Stakeholders requirements given the outcomes of the project analysis for barriers & contributing factors regarding solutions acceptance & assure TRUSTEE will meet these needs and support the design and define in detail the overall TRUSTEE architecture of the system.
