[ICS-2412] Call for expression of interest for two (2) systems software engineers, with MSc degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
We seek two (2) systems software engineers, with a MSc degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. The candidates will contribute to the R&D activities of FORTH, in the context of the EuroHPC-funded project SPACE, in either a full-time (preferred) or part-time capacity. The SPACE Centre-of-Excellence project aims to foster the reuse and sharing of algorithms and software components in the Astrophysics and Cosmology (A&C) application domain, where High Performance Computing (HPC)-based numerical simulations are outstanding instruments for scientific discovery. SPACE aims to extensively re-engineer the target codes to engage with new computational solutions suitable for exascale and post-exascale computing systems, and to adopt innovative programming paradigms, software solutions, and libraries. The SPACE consortium will pursue this goal through co-design activities that bring together scientists, code developers, HPC experts, HW manufacturers and SW developers, advancing lighthouse exascale A&C applications, codes, services and know-how promoting the use of upcoming exascale and post-exascale computing capabilities. In addition, SPACE will address the high-performance data analysis of the data torrent produced by exascale A&C simulation applications, also with machine-learning and visualization tools. The deployment of applications running on different platforms will be facilitated by federating capabilities focusing on code repositories and data sharing, and integrating European astrophysical communities around exascale computing by adopting software and data standards and interoperability protocols.

[ICS-2411] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position for student enrolled to a University MSc Program
We seek one (1) student enrolled to a University MSc Program in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. The candidate will contribute to the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EC-funded project HIGHER, particularly in the implementation, validation, and evaluation of use cases. The HIGHER project follows the Open Compute Project (OCP) Server family of standards to build processor modules for computation and acceleration, alongside a system security/control module. The project aims to build modular rack-scale systems, running with fully-featured operating systems and runtimes, and incorporating reusable standards-based infrastructure that encompasses hardware, low-level firmware, and systems software, while ensuring trustworthy functionality for managing, securing, and controlling servers. The project's open-source hardware and software outcomes will enhance European Digital Autonomy and facilitate wide adoption. Furthermore, the project will assemble representative software stacks supporting a range of use cases, including accelerated data processing and analysis for converged Cloud and HPC platforms, Infrastructure-as-a- Service with standardized management and monitoring, Platform-as-a-Service facilitating large-scale data processing for ML inference and data analytics, and memory pool management at the server rack level, with access control safeguards aligned with maturing CXL standards.

[ICS-2273] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position of a BSc or MSc holder in Computer Science or Engineer
We seek one Computer Scientist or Engineer (BSc or MSc holder) to develop and implement autonomous GPS-denied navigation and GPS spoofing detection for UAVs, utilizing computer vision, machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and probabilistic methods to enhance operational reliability in complex environments.The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH-ICS in the context of EDIDP 2020-MSC-NS- 2020 project “USSPs – Development of Unmanned Semi-fixed Sea Platforms” (EDIDP-MSC-NS-2020-117-USSPS), funded under EDIDP 2020-MSC-NS-2020. The project “Development of Unmanned Semi-fixed Sea Platforms for Maritime Surveillance” (USSPS) will develop the backbone of an advanced C5ISTAR federated system of systems. USSPS will integrate legacy assets and systems with innovative solutions, aiming to improve maritime surveillance capabilities, reduce high value asset utilization and mission related costs, and provide cross-domain persistent and permanent maritime situational awareness. The project will develop an unmanned highly autonomous, energy efficient and miniaturized oil rig technology-based platform capable to integrate a wide range of air, surface and underwater sensors. The platforms will enable deployment in any geographical region, including all types of sea-beds and deep-sea regions, and operation under adverse environmental conditions. The candidate will contribute in tasks regarding the integration of advanced capabilities on the USSPs prototype (WP5), and specifically: • GPS spoofing detection using ML or DL methods • GPS Spoofing dataset generation • Multi-sensory probabilistic data fusion • Visual- and NN-based feature extraction and tracking

The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH-ICS in the context of the project PULSE-ART. The candidate will work with the design, extension and implementation of services for the tool SYNTHESIS that is used for administration, documentation and promotion of cultural instances.PULSE-ART will produce compelling evidence illustrating the positive impact of arts in education for the enhancement of cultural expression and awareness (CAE). At the heart of this initiative lies the concept of integrating art, culture, and heritage institutions, including museums, galleries, cultural centers and overall CCIs, into the educational framework. This integration aims to effectively address the deficiencies of the educational system, hindering the improvement of CAE through the arts. Reference materials will be created and integrated into the Arts in Education for Cultural Awareness Observatory, including a competency Framework, a Professional Development Programme and a self-reflection tool, which will be validated and tested through 7 case studies in 7 countries using different art techniques with a lifelong learning perspective. Collaborative Hubs between educational institutions, spanning all levels of education, and art and cultural heritage organizations will be created to bridge the identified gaps through innovative and tailored methodologies of arts in education, leveraging the expertise and fostering partnerships.
