We seek one (1) a Post-Doctoral Researcher for our team. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EuroHPC JU-funded project NET4EXA. The NET4EXA project aims to create an advanced interconnect, which will scale to hundreds of thousands of computing nodes and will support modern HPC systems that are designed for massive AI tasks, such as the training of Large Language Models. The interconnect forms the backbone of such systems, and their overall performance is intimately tied to the scalability of the network and its tight coupling with the high-end compute elements.

We seek one (1) recent graduate Research & Development Engineer with a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering for our team. The candidates will contribute to the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EC-funded project HIGHER, particularly in (i) development of low-level control firmware and system software, and (ii) validation and evaluation of use cases. The HIGHER project follows the Open Compute Project (OCP) Server family of standards to build processor modules for computation and acceleration, alongside a system security/control module.

Description The candidate will participate in the R&D work of FORTH within the ICUdata4EU project. We are seeking a Software security Engineer, to contribute to the design, implementation, and testing of cybersecurity frameworks for the components of the European ICU Data Space. Required qualifications: o Bachelor in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering or equivalent o Good knowledge of English Desired qualifications: o Experience with encryption, authentication, and authorization technologies to ensure cybersecurity and privacy of patient data. o Hands-on experience with identity & access management for sensitive data: OpenID Connect / OAuth2, an IdP such as Keycloak, token validation, and service-to-service authentication. o Experience designing and implementing authorization models — RBAC/ABAC/ReBAC (e.g. OpenFGA, Zanzibar-style) — for multi-role, multi-tenant clinical or research settings, applying least-privilege principles. o Containerised deployment and secure operation: Docker / Docker Compose, reverse-proxy configuration, TLS termination and certificate management. o Demonstrable experience building production-grade backend services in Python (FastAPI or equivalent) over relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL). o Testing and CI/CD practice (unit/integration tests, GitLab CI), plus security testing, monitoring and logging.

Computational Biodiversity is the scientific discipline that focuses on the design of algorithms and models — such as machine learning methods, data science approaches, discrete and numerical algorithms, as well as classical statistical techniques — and on the development of corresponding software and tools for the exploration, analysis, and interpretation of biodiversity data (ecological, genetic, biogeographical, satellite, or sensor data). At the same time, particular emphasis is placed on the analysis and interpretation of real/empirical biodiversity data, in close collaboration with biologists. Overall, Computational Biodiversity aims to facilitate and enhance research in the field of biodiversity.

The selected candidate will participate in the Research and development activities of ICS-FORTH in the context of the Horizon Europe project “NextGEM: Next Generation Integrated Sensing and Analytical System for Monitoring and Assessing Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Field Exposure and Health”, funded under Horizon Europe, HORIZON-HLTH-2021-ENVHLTH-02-01-Exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) and health. In addition, the candidate can contribute in deliverables and technical reports, participate in project meetings and publish research results in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Abstract NextGEM is a 4-year project which was started on 1st of July 2022 and is funded under the call “Exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) and health” (HORIZON-HLTH-2021-ENVHLTH-02-01). The NextGEM vision is to assure safety for EU citizens when employing existing and future EMF based telecommunication technologies. This will be accomplished by generating relevant knowledge that ascertains appropriate prevention and control/actuation actions of EMF exposure in residential, public, and occupational settings. Fulfilling the vision will provide a healthy living and working environment, under safe EMF exposure conditions, that can be trusted by people and be in line with the regulations and laws of the public authorities. For that, NextGEM will provide a framework for the generation of health-relevant scientific knowledge and data on new scenarios of exposure to EMF in multiple frequency bands, and develop and validate tools for evidence-based risk assessment. NextGEM will also create the NextGEM Innovation and Knowledge Hub (NIKH) for EMF and Health offering a standardised way for European regulatory authorities and the scientific community to store and assess project outcomes, and provide access to FAIR data.
