[ICS-2412] Call for expression of interest for two (2) systems software engineers, with MSc degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
We seek two (2) systems software engineers, with a MSc degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. The candidates will contribute to the R&D activities of FORTH, in the context of the EuroHPC-funded project SPACE, in either a full-time (preferred) or part-time capacity. The SPACE Centre-of-Excellence project aims to foster the reuse and sharing of algorithms and software components in the Astrophysics and Cosmology (A&C) application domain, where High Performance Computing (HPC)-based numerical simulations are outstanding instruments for scientific discovery. SPACE aims to extensively re-engineer the target codes to engage with new computational solutions suitable for exascale and post-exascale computing systems, and to adopt innovative programming paradigms, software solutions, and libraries. The SPACE consortium will pursue this goal through co-design activities that bring together scientists, code developers, HPC experts, HW manufacturers and SW developers, advancing lighthouse exascale A&C applications, codes, services and know-how promoting the use of upcoming exascale and post-exascale computing capabilities. In addition, SPACE will address the high-performance data analysis of the data torrent produced by exascale A&C simulation applications, also with machine-learning and visualization tools. The deployment of applications running on different platforms will be facilitated by federating capabilities focusing on code repositories and data sharing, and integrating European astrophysical communities around exascale computing by adopting software and data standards and interoperability protocols.

[ICS-2411] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position for student enrolled to a University MSc Program
We seek one (1) student enrolled to a University MSc Program in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. The candidate will contribute to the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EC-funded project HIGHER, particularly in the implementation, validation, and evaluation of use cases. The HIGHER project follows the Open Compute Project (OCP) Server family of standards to build processor modules for computation and acceleration, alongside a system security/control module. The project aims to build modular rack-scale systems, running with fully-featured operating systems and runtimes, and incorporating reusable standards-based infrastructure that encompasses hardware, low-level firmware, and systems software, while ensuring trustworthy functionality for managing, securing, and controlling servers. The project's open-source hardware and software outcomes will enhance European Digital Autonomy and facilitate wide adoption. Furthermore, the project will assemble representative software stacks supporting a range of use cases, including accelerated data processing and analysis for converged Cloud and HPC platforms, Infrastructure-as-a- Service with standardized management and monitoring, Platform-as-a-Service facilitating large-scale data processing for ML inference and data analytics, and memory pool management at the server rack level, with access control safeguards aligned with maturing CXL standards.

[ICS-1399] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position of Research Assistant in the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH)
Project VISORSURF seeks to develop a full stack of hardware and software components for smart, interconnected planar objects with programmable electromagnetic behavior, the HyperSurfaces. The key-enablers are the metasurfaces, artificial materials whose electromagnetic properties depend on their internal structure. HyperSurfaces merge metasurfaces with embedded electronic control elements and well-defined software programming interfaces and tools. The control elements receive external software commands and alter the metasurface structure, yielding a desired electromagnetic behavior. VISORSURF is a research and innovation action (RIA) funded by the European Union via the Future Emerging Topics call (FETOPEN). The candidate will carry out assisting duties for the project, covering general research support. For the project’s technical aspects, he/she is expected to assist is hardware and software maintenance tasks, indicatively handling tasks such as overlooking the execution of distributed simulations/emulations, automating processes and assisting in writing reports

Κατάλληλη παραμετροποίηση των ασύρματων δικτυακών συσκευών για την βελτιστοποίηση της απόδοσής τους στη συλλογή δεδομένων υγρασίας και θερμοκρασίας του εδάφους, θερμοκρασίας και υγρασίας της ατμόσφαιρας, ηλιοφάνειας και οι καιρικών συνθηκών. [ICS-1396] Call for expression of interest for one (1) Engineer - Data scientist position in the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH)
We seek an engineer/data scientist for our team with a strong background in machine learning and/or statistical analysis. The candidate will participate in our exciting new computational neuroscience project entitled “Neuronal Networks in Epilepsy−Deciphering the Role of Activity Patterns in Focal Cortical Seizures” funded by the Fondation Santé. The main focus of the project is to decipher how abnormal activity patterns emerge across different cortical-neuron types, what EEG-patterns they correspond with, and how they evolve into full-fledged seizure events. For that, we apply various machine-learning and statistical analysis algorithms to identify what abnormal interactions between pyramidal neurons and different types of interneurons allow hyper-synchrony (seizure) to emerge. Researchers from Harvard Medical School participate actively in this project.
