We seek one (1) recent graduate Engineer with a degree in Computer Science or Computer for our team. The candidates will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EC-funded project DAFAB. DAFAB addresses three primary challenges, in order to leverage the full potential of Copernicus' information. Firstly, the timely analysis of EO data that is critical for decision-makers to make informed decisions is addressed through novel hardware techniques dedicated to AI and federated computing techniques. Secondly, the massive amounts of Copernicus data make it challenging to identify the most relevant datasets for specific purposes, therefore DAFAB invests in public metadata catalogs to enable searching Copernicus images by features and relationships. Finally, the sustainability of analysis by-products is critical for efficient data management. To address this challenge, DAFAB invests in cloud-computing techniques and public metadata catalogs, providing a unified solution for searching both raw Copernicus and by-products by features and relationships. By addressing these challenges, DAFAB aims to unlock the full potential of Copernicus data and drive growth in the European EO data market.

We seek one (1) a Post-Doctoral Researcher for our team. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EuroHPC JU-funded project NET4EXA. The NET4EXA project aims to create an advanced interconnect, which will scale to hundreds of thousands of computing nodes and will support modern HPC systems that are designed for massive AI tasks, such as the training of Large Language Models. The interconnect forms the backbone of such systems, and their overall performance is intimately tied to the scalability of the network and its tight coupling with the high-end compute elements.

[ICS-2362] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position for R&D Engineer with a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
We seek one (1) recent graduate Engineer with a degree in Computer Science or Computer for our team. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EC-funded project RISER. The RISER project will develop and validate open-source designs for standardized form-factor system platforms suitable for supporting cloud services, featuring RISC-V processor chips from contemporary European initiatives. Specifically, RISER will build two cloud-focused platforms: (1) An accelerator platform, in the form of a PCIe acceleration board designed for integration with HPC servers; (2) A microserver platform consisting of RISC-V chips coupled with high-speed storage and networking. The open-source system board designs of RISER will be accompanied by open-source low-level firmware and systems software, and a representative Linux-based software stack to support cloud services, facilitating uptake and enhancing the commercialization path of project results. Three use cases will be developed to evaluate and demonstrate the capabilities of RISER platforms: a) Acceleration of compute workloads; b) Networked object and key-value storage; c) Containerized execution as part of a provider-managed IaaS environment. The RISER consortium consists of seven partners, from academia, research centers and industry.

[ICS-2171] Πλήρωση μίας (1) θέσης έκτακτου προσωπικού (Research Associate) - ML Engineer
Το αντικείμενο της θέσης επικεντρώνεται στην ανάπτυξη και την εφαρμογή μεθόδων μηχανικής μάθησης και βαθιάς μάθησης για την ανάλυση και την κατηγοριοποίηση συνόλων χρονοσειρών. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, οι μέθοδοι που θα υλοποιηθούν θα αποτελούν μέρος ενός συστήματος παθητικού ραντάρ για την ανίχνευση drones μέσω επεξεργασίας των ανακλώμενων σε αυτά σημάτων από δίκτυα 4G/5G. Ζητούμενο είναι η ακριβής κατηγοριοποίηση και διαχωρισμός των σημάτων που ανακλώνται από drones σε σχέση με άλλα αντικείμενα στο περιβάλλον, καθώς και η αναγνώριση διαφορετικών τύπων drones. Οι μέθοδοι που θα αναπτυχθούν θα πρέπει να επιτυγχάνουν καταστολή των επιπτώσεων παρεμβολών, που οδηγούν σε χαμηλό λόγο σήματος προς θόρυβο. Η αξιολόγηση της απόδοσης του συστήματος θα πραγματοποιηθεί χρησιμοποιώντας προσομοιωμένα και πραγματικά σήματα. Συνοπτικά, οι βασικές ευθύνες και καθήκοντα της θέσης περιλαμβάνουν: • Ανάπτυξη αλγορίθμων μηχανικής μάθησης και βαθιάς μάθησης που είναι κατάλληλοι για την αποθορυβοποίηση, ανάλυση, και ταξινόμηση πολυδιάστατων χρονοσειρών. • Εφαρμογή των αλγορίθμων σε προσομοιωμένα και πραγματικά σύνολα δεδομένων χρονοσειρών. • Αξιολόγηση της απόδοσης των αναπτυγμένων μοντέλων μηχανικής μάθησης και βαθιάς μάθησης χρησιμοποιώντας μετρικές καταλληλότητας και ακρίβειας. • Διάχυση των αποτελεσμάτων της έρευνας μέσω δημοσιεύσεων σε διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά και παρουσιάσεις σε συνέδρια.

We seek three experienced members for our team, with a background in Computer Science / Information Systems/ Electrical Engineering. The candidates will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the project “Transforming European Industrial Ecosystems through eXtended Reality enhanced with human-centric AI and secure, 5G-enabled IoT” (INDUX-R) (Grant Agreement number: 101135556), funded under Horizon EUROPE, HORIZON-CL4-2023-HUMAN-01-CNECT (IA). INDUX-R is coordinated by ETHNIKO KENTRO EREVNAS KAI TECHNOLOGIKIS ANAPTYXIS (CERTH), Greece, and FORTH-ICS is a member of the project consortium. The project envisions a human-centric XR ecosystem that will transform European industrial sectors by empowering humans and creating innovate XR products and services of significant added value. It targets for concrete scientific breakthroughs integrated in technological enablers page 2 of 3 that will be applied in use cases driven from real-life needs while having the potential to be replicated in several other applications. These breakthroughs are focused on core XR technologies, namely, digitisation and creation of XR assets, realistic animation, light-field HMDs, XR media streaming and egocentric perception. To address challenges that multi-user XR applications pose, INDUX-R will implement a highly scalable, zero-touch 5G architecture and a secure, interoperable IoT network that can accommodate fluctuating demands and minimize waste of resources. The foreseen use cases cover a wide spectrum of industrial ecosystems in event planning, Industry 4.0, virtual medical training, cultural tourism, and broadcasting of sports events where end-users will participate in every step of INDUX-R, from the elaboration of user requirements up to final qualification of the ecosystem, thus implementing a human-centric approach of XR technology development. In this regard, INDUX-R reflects upon the societal and ethical challenges that XR poses, building a legal and ethics framework that will ensure that technological development is aligned with European values.
