[ICS-2365] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position of a student enrolled to a University MSc Program in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
We seek one (1) student enrolled to a University MSc Program in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering for our team. The candidate should have proven experience with RISC-V or ARM architectures with a background in European Research Projects. The candidates will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH-ICS in the context of the EuroHPC JU project Plasma-PEPSC. Plasma science has been at the forefront of HPC for several decades, driving and at the same time benefiting greatly from innovative hardware and software developments. The overall goal of Plasma-PEPSC is to take this development to the next level, enabling scientific breakthroughs in plasma science Grand Challenges through exascale computing and extreme-scale data analytics. Specifically, the project aims to enable unprecedented simulations on current pre-exascale and future exascale platforms in Europe to control plasma-material interfaces, optimize magnetically confined fusion plasmas, design next-generation plasma accelerators and predict space plasma dynamics in the Earth’s magnetosphere. These goals will be achieved by maximizing the parallel performance and efficiency of four European flagship plasma codes with a large user base: BIT, GENE, PIConGPU, and Vlasiator. The project will build on algorithmic advances (regarding load balancing, resilience, and data compression) as well as on programming model and library developments (MPI, accelerator and data movement APIs and runtimes, in-situ data analysis). Plasma-PEPSC brings together an exceptional, interdisciplinary group of highly-recognized leading scientists from academia, research centres, and HPC centres, with decades of experience in algorithmic and method developments, extreme-scale plasma simulations, and application optimizations with high involvement in strategic EuroHPC projects and initiatives.

[ICS-2364] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position for R&D Engineer with a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
We seek one (1) recent graduate Engineer with a degree in Computer Science or Computer for our team. The candidates will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EC-funded project DAFAB. DAFAB addresses three primary challenges, in order to leverage the full potential of Copernicus' information. Firstly, the timely analysis of EO data that is critical for decision-makers to make informed decisions is addressed through novel hardware techniques dedicated to AI and federated computing techniques. Secondly, the massive amounts of Copernicus data make it challenging to identify the most relevant datasets for specific purposes, therefore DAFAB invests in public metadata catalogs to enable searching Copernicus images by features and relationships. Finally, the sustainability of analysis by-products is critical for efficient data management. To address this challenge, DAFAB invests in cloud-computing techniques and public metadata catalogs, providing a unified solution for searching both raw Copernicus and by-products by features and relationships. By addressing these challenges, DAFAB aims to unlock the full potential of Copernicus data and drive growth in the European EO data market.

[ICS-2363] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position of a Post-Doctoral Researcher
We seek one (1) a Post-Doctoral Researcher for our team. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EuroHPC JU-funded project NET4EXA. The NET4EXA project aims to create an advanced interconnect, which will scale to hundreds of thousands of computing nodes and will support modern HPC systems that are designed for massive AI tasks, such as the training of Large Language Models. The interconnect forms the backbone of such systems, and their overall performance is intimately tied to the scalability of the network and its tight coupling with the high-end compute elements.

[ICS-2362] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position for R&D Engineer with a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
We seek one (1) recent graduate Engineer with a degree in Computer Science or Computer for our team. The candidate will participate in the R&D activities of FORTH in the context of the EC-funded project RISER. The RISER project will develop and validate open-source designs for standardized form-factor system platforms suitable for supporting cloud services, featuring RISC-V processor chips from contemporary European initiatives. Specifically, RISER will build two cloud-focused platforms: (1) An accelerator platform, in the form of a PCIe acceleration board designed for integration with HPC servers; (2) A microserver platform consisting of RISC-V chips coupled with high-speed storage and networking. The open-source system board designs of RISER will be accompanied by open-source low-level firmware and systems software, and a representative Linux-based software stack to support cloud services, facilitating uptake and enhancing the commercialization path of project results. Three use cases will be developed to evaluate and demonstrate the capabilities of RISER platforms: a) Acceleration of compute workloads; b) Networked object and key-value storage; c) Containerized execution as part of a provider-managed IaaS environment. The RISER consortium consists of seven partners, from academia, research centers and industry.
