ERCIM - The European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics offers postdoctoral fellowships in leading European information technology research centres. Fellowships are of 18 months duration, spent in two research centres. Competitive salary.

Postdoc in Computer Systems and Computer Architecture

Description:

The CARV laboratory of the Institute of Computer Science at the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas, is seeking applicants for postdoctoral positions in scalable compute and storage systems. This area is currently under significant change due to developments in underlying technologies that open exciting possibilities. The ideal candidates would be experts in computer systems and parallel computer architecture, with a strong publication record, and proven experience in developing systems software (e.g. OS kernel programming, device drivers, network protocols, distributed middleware, or firmware).

Required skills:

Documented research experience in computer systems and parallel computer architecture. Ability to build systems software (kernel modules, firmware).

Desired Skills:

Experience in some of storage architectures, filesystems, storage device protocols, interconnection networks, network interface architectures, communication protocols, high-level communication abstractions, scalable distributed middleware.

Education:

A Ph.D in computer science, computer engineering, or related field is required.


These positions can be combined with graduate studies in the Computer Science Department at the University of Crete that has an established graduate program.

Junior Research Positions in Scalable Storage Systems

Description:

Two junior researcher positions (Early Stage Researchers -- ESRs) in the area of scalable storage systems are available in the CARV Laboratory of the Institute of Computer Science (ICS), Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH), Heraklion, Greece (http://www.ics.forth.gr). The area of storage systems is currently under significant change due to changes in underlying technologies that open exciting possibilities. ESRs are typically pre-PhD researchers. The ideal candidates would hold a Bachelors or Master's in computer science, computer engineering or related field, would have developed familiarity in computer systems and computer architecture, and good systems building skills in low-level systems software (e.g. kernel modules, network protocols, file-systems, block-level storage systems, controller firmware). The positions are funded by the European Commission under the Marie Curie Initial Training Network Program. The duration of the appointment is 1 year with possibility of extending to 3 years. Applications for smaller periods will also be considered.

  • Official degrees and transcripts showing all courses attended by the applicant and grade for each course
  • Three recommendation letters

Postdoc position in Exascale Computing Systems Research

Description:

The CARV Laboratory of the Institute of Computer Science at the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas, is seeking applicants for postdoctoral positions to work on programming models, runtime support, and adaptation of scientific applications for Exascale computing systems. Having surpassed the Petaflop barrier, supercomputers are reaching for the Exaflop target, using millions of processor cores. This challenge opens up numerous exciting opportunities in research at all layers of the software stack. The ideal candidate should have strong background in parallel programming and system software for parallel computing at all scales (chip-level, node-level, cluster-level), a strong publications record in central conferences in these areas, and strong experience in building systems software prototypes and parallel applications at scale. Outstanding postdoctoral candidates may be considered for tenure-track research positions at FORTH-ICS.

Required skills:

Documented research record in parallel programming and system software for parallel computing at all scales.

Desired Skills:

Parallel programming using distributed-memory and shared-memory models (MPI, OpenMP, CUDA/OpenCL, PGAS languages), compiler and runtime support for parallel programming (in particular, techniques for scheduling and locality management), parallel application development and optimization on Petaflop-class supercomputers.

Education:

A Ph.D in computer science, computer engineering, or related field is required

Salary:

Highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

Description:

Two Early Stage Researcher (ESR) positions are available at the ICS FORTH. These positions are funded by the European Commission under the Marie Curie Initial Training Network Programme (project TransForm). We address (pre-PhD) researchers aiming at significantly improving their career perspectives from both the PUBLIC and PRIVATE sector. The duration of the appointment is 3 years. Applications for smaller periods will also be considered (but applicants interested to join the project for 3 years will be given priority). Applicants may also request to be considered as candidates for the PhD program at the Department of Computer Science, University of Crete, Greece. The ESRs will pursue research on the area of theoretical distributed computing and more specifically on theoretical foundations of transactional memory.

Post-doctoral Research Position - Telecommunications and Networks Laboratory (TNL)

Description:

The Telecommunications and Networks Laboratory (TNL) of the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) at the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), is seeking recent PhD graduates for a post-doctoral position in the field of Audio Signal Processing. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on one or more of several interesting projects including multichannel audio and surround sound, teleconferencing and noise cancellation, and audio codec design and implementation.

The successful candidate will be offered the opportunity to:

  • Have access to laboratory facilities and significant resources, and interact with researchers from other FORTH-ICS labs.
  • Work within a team with a strong international flavour including many researchers of non-Greek origin.
  • Collaborate with academic and industrial partners in Greece and abroad.
  • Work on a research subject which best fits his/her background and future goals, within the general areas described above.

Required skills:

  • A PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • Substantial research experience in signal processing for audio signals, as evidenced by a good publication record.
  • Significant programming experience in Matlab and/or C/C++.
Eligibility:
  • Recent PhD graduates (less than 10 years after obtaining their BS degree).
  • Non-Greek nationals, who have not resided in Greece more than 12 months in the 3 years prior to the appointment.
  • Greek nationals who have resided and held their primary activities outside Greece for at least 3 of the last 4 years.
