Bernhard Plattner is a Professor of Computer Engineering at ETH Zurich, where he leads the Communication Systems Research Group (CSG). He has a diploma in Electrical Engineering and a doctoral degree in Computer Science, both from ETH Zurich. His research areas include the future of Internet architecture, Internet security and resilience, and wireless opportunistic networks. He is a research associate of the Open Networking Foundation and also a partner in the EU-funded research project OFELIA, which is creating a test bed for SDN and OpenFlow protocol experiments.
He is the author or co-author of several books and conference proceeding volumes and has published over 170 refereed papers in international journals or conferences. Prof. Plattner was a long-term member of the board of directors of the SWITCH Foundation, and as its vice-president was instrumental in bringing the Internet to Swiss universities. He was Program Director of ETH World, a large strategic program to establish a virtual space for communication and cooperation independent of time and place. Prof. Plattner served as the Head of Faculty of Electrical Engineering and as a Vice-Rector for Bachelor/Master Studies at ETH Zurich. Prof. Plattner is a member of the IEEE, ACM and the Internet Society. He served as the program or general chair of various international conferences, such as ACM SIGCOMM 91, INET '94, PAM 2010 and ICCCN 2010. He has a honorary degree from the National University of Sevastopol, Ukraine, and is an adjunct professor of the Communication University of China, Beijing.
Xenofontas Dimitropoulos is an Assistant Professor at the University of Crete and affiliated Researcher to the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) since 2014. He leads the Internet Research Group doing research on software defined networks and Internet measurements. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology and has also worked at IBM Research and the University of California San Diego. He has published more than 60 papers and has won 2 best paper awards. In addition, he has received grants from the European Research Council, the Marie Curie Program and the Fulbright Foundation. He has served in committees of conferences such as ACM SIGCOMM and ACM Internet Measurement Conference (IMC).
Laurent Vanbever is an Assistant Professor at ETH Zürich where he leads the Networked Systems Group (NSG) since January 2015. Before that, Laurent was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Princeton University where he collaborated with Jennifer Rexford during two years. He obtained his PhD degree from the University of Louvain in Belgium in 2012. Laurent has won several awards for his research including: the ACM SIGCOMM Doctoral Dissertation Award (runner-up); the University of Louvain Best Thesis Award; the best paper award at the International Conference on Network Protocols (ICNP); and two IETF Applied Networking Research Prizes for his works on inter-domain routing.
Marco Canini is an assistant professor in the ICTEAM institute at the Université catholique de Louvain. Marco obtained his Ph.D. in computer science and engineering from the University of Genoa in 2009 after spending the last year as a visiting student at the University of Cambridge, Computer Laboratory. He holds a laurea degree with honors in computer science and engineering from the University of Genoa. He was a postdoctoral researcher at EPFL from 2009 to 2012 and after that a senior research scientist for one year at Deutsche Telekom Innovation Labs & TU Berlin. Vasileios Kotronis holds a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering (Dipl.-Ing) from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA, July 2011). He has been a member of the Communication Systems Group at ETH Zurich as a doctoral student since December 2011. He worked on the project OpenFlow in Europe – Linking Infrastructure and Applications (OFELIA-FP7) between December 2011 and October 2013. His main research fields are Software Defined Networks (SDN), Internet Routing and SDN Testbeds.
