] Call for expression of interest for one (1) position of a Researcher with an M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering / Robotics
Topic: Design and Implementation of Embedded Sensor Systems and Multi-Agent SLAM for Autonomous Drone Swarms in GNSS-Denied Domains. Description We seek one experienced member for our team, a Scientist or Engineer with a strong background in robotics, embedded systems, and multi-agent coordination. The successful candidate will conduct research and development on hardware-integrated autonomy solutions for unmanned aerial platforms within the framework of the ORDEAL project. The ORDEAL project (Operational Resilience of Drones in Experiments and Autonomous fLight), funded by the European Defence Fund (EDF), establishes a European technological challenge framework for evaluating robust autonomous drone navigation. The project organizes large-scale test campaigns across Europe, simulating non-permissive conditions such as GNSS jamming/spoofing, RF interference, and counter-UAS systems. ORDEAL drives innovation in positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) for single drones and swarms operating in contested environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and implementation of embedded sensor systems and the development of Multi-Agent SLAM algorithms for autonomous drone swarms. Responsibilities include the electromechanical assembly of robotic platforms, embedded programming of microcontrollers, and the design of hardware-aware swarm control strategies for GNSS-denied domains. Furthermore, the candidate will support the technical preparation of the project’s field test campaigns, manage sensor data acquisition frameworks, and contribute to the technical validation of resilient navigation skills in accordance with the Grant Agreement.
