I am a post-doctoral researcher at
the Computational Vision and Robotics
Lab of the Foundation for Research and
Technology – Hellas (FORTH). I received a BSc in Computer Science from
the University of Plymouth (2005),
an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Plymouth (2006), and a
PhD in Computer Science from the University of
Crete (2012). My PhD thesis is entitled “Computational Modeling of Observational
Learning Inspired By The Cortical Underpinnings of Human and Monkey Primates”
and focused on the computational implementation of observational learning
inspired by findings in the brain of human and non-human primates. My main research interests include
optimization methodologies, biologically inspired computational modeling,
motor control and learning. |

I was recently awarded
with the best student paper award by the International Neural Network Society
(INNS) for the paper (Hourdakis and Trahanias, 2011), entitled “Improving the
classification performance of liquid state machines based on the separation
property”, International Conference on Engineering Applications of Neural
