Universidad Politecnica de Madrid is a Spanish University with high
participation in European projects. It has about 5,000 professors, 100 departments
and 45,000 students. The group participating in the proposal belongs to the
Department of Automatic Control, Electronic Engineering and Industrial Computing
(UPM-DISAM). They have expertise in industrial robotics, autonomous robots,
computer vision, and industrial process control, and has participated in 22
European funded projects, among them ESPRIT 2202 PLATO, ESPRIT 2493 PANORAMA,
ESPRIT 6447 HINT, ESPRIT 6450 ROCCO, ESPRIT 22130 DIXIT, IST 11056 PIS3 or IST
10258 DOTS.
Regarding this project proposal their experience is related with Intelligent
Control, Software Integration, Control Architectures, Perception Systems, Autonomous
Navigation and Multi-robot Co-ordination. They have a high number of publications
in the area, as well as experience in many National or European funded projects
related with ROBERTO. Their kind of know-how makes them appropriate to contribute
to the robot navigation system, to the system integration, and to the testing
and validation of the pilot application. Their experience for more than ten
years in mobile robotics, and for more than fifteen years in European projects,
make them the most adequate participant to be the technical co-ordinator of
the project.
