Department of Education and Training
The Department of Education and Training was founded in 1984 and has efficiently trained more than 8.000 members of the local community in MS-Windows, MS-Office and business information software. It is located in downtown Heraklion and Rethimnon in 9 fully equipped classrooms. Provides employee training for corporations (e.g. banks, hotels, government and public organizations, hospitals, etc.), skills training for unemployed workers at post-secondary education level, specialized training to fulfill specific needs of market areas (e.g. technical support and networking courses) and educational and training support for ICS research programs.

Department of Systems and Networks
The Department of Systems and Network Administration is responsible for the development, operation and management of the ICS/FORTH network. The Department also provides design, engineering and implementation services for network and system infrastructure of ICS research projects. It has been actively involved in the design and development of the Hygeianet network. Currently we operate a Gigabit backbone network with over 1100 workstations and servers. The department offers a full set of services including voice, video and wireless access.

Registry for the .gr Domain Names
FORTH-ICS is the Registry for the Country - Code Top Level Domain .gr since the year 1989. In particular, the Department for the Administration of Domain Names (GR-Hostmaster) is responsible for the daily operations of the registry for the domain names ending in .gr, under the rules and regulations set out by the National Telecommunications &Post Commission, as stated in the 268/73 Decision of November 25th 2002 and the 351/76 Decision of April 15th 2005.

W3C Office in Greece
W3C was founded in October 1994 to lead the World Wide Web to its full potential by developing common protocols that promote its evolution and ensure its interoperability. Today W3C has over 400 Members. The W3C Office in Greece is hosted by FORTH-ICS.

Safeline
Having recognized the importance of safer Internet Access, several stakeholders are becoming increasingly more active in this area. These stakeholders include (i) citizen’s organizations who promote safer use of the Internet, (ii) governments who want to protect their youth, and (iii) researchers who conduct research in the area of advanced filtering and monitoring methodologies in order to provide the necessary tools which will facilitate safer Internet access. Most of the relevant stakeholders in Europe are organized around INHOPE, the Association of Internet Hotline providers which has 17 members including Greece, through the participation of SAFELINE (www.safeline.gr)
