CENTR is organising
its 13th Administrative Workshop & 36th General Assembly, which
are kindly hosted by the .gr Registry of FORTH-ICS. The meetings
will be held from 4 to 6 June 2008 in Heraklion, Crete, Greece.
CENTR is an association of Internet Country Code Top Level Domain
Registries (ccTLDs), such as .uk in the United Kingdom and .es
in Spain. Among CENTR's members, there are more than 50 ccTLD
managers representing more than 38 Million domain names.
CENTR Administrative Workshop is directed to the administrative
staff of the Registries. The workshop is a platform of discussion
for exchanging know-how, best practices and new services and projects
long before they are to be launched, listening to suggestions
and learning from experiences with similar initiatives.
CENTR General Assembly will cover broad themes, such as internet
security or marketing.

13th CENTR Administrative workshop, Hersonissos,
Crete, Greece
The CENTR Administrative workshop met in Hersonissos, Crete on
4 June 2008. More than 50 participants from 30 different registries
attended the meeting which was kindly hosted by the .gr Hostmaster
department of FORTH-ICS (the .gr registry).
The main topics on the meeting's agenda were Registry-Registrar
communication, Registrar systems and customer relations, Security
and quality management and an exchange of experience on ENUM and
IDNs. The presentations are available on the Admin13 homepage.
36th CENTR General Assembly, Hersonissos,
Crete, Greece
CENTR held its 36th General Assembly on 5 - 6 June 2008 in Hersonissos
on the island of Crete (Greece). The meeting was kindly hosted
by the .gr Hostmaster department of FORTH-ICS (the .gr registry).
More than 80 participants represented more than 30 registries.
Among the participants there was also a delegation from ICANN/IANA,
the European Commission and ENISA.
CENTR was pleased to welcome for the first time since they had
become a member a representative from NIC.TR, the Turkish registry.
The main theme of the meeting was 'Marketing and New Services'
and participants learned about the Domain name Monitoring under
.be, sales and marketing activities in .se, .cat's spring campaign
and the .es campaign for young people. There were presentations
on Nominet's renewals research, Denic's service standards, .asia,
several registry updates from CENTR members and updates from ICANN/IANA,
the European Commission, ENISA and APTLD.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation of the
'CENTR/Zooknic study: Analysis of the Factors behind the Demand
for Domain Names'. The study was based on the data from 21 CENTR
members for the period between January 2003 and January 2008.
The next CENTR General Assembly will be hosted by nic-IT, the
registry for .it (Italy), on 2-3 October 2008 in Pisa, Italy.
