Prof. Vassilis Christophides is a professor in the Department of Computer Science, University of Crete and a researcher in the Information Systems Laboratory of the Institute of Computer Science, FORTH.

His research interests include Wide-area Integration Systems, Electronic Documents Management Systems, Object Database Management Systems, Models and Query Languages for semi-structured data, Optimization and Indexing techniques.

He is the science person in charge of the following projects:

- CASPAR (IST)

- KP-Lab (IST)

- MESMUSES (IST)

- C-Web (IST)

He has actively participated in:

- OntoWeb (Network of Excellence on Ontology-based Information Exchange)
